This humidifier does work, it has increased the humidity in my room, I measured with a digital hygrometer. What I do is first fill the tank with cold water, never more than 75% dno why i just dont, then I screw the cap on tightly and make sure it sits flat when screwed on. I then put it on the base make sure its secure, then i hear glup glup noises which is normal. I then plug it in an outlet turn it on then slowly turn the nob, I never turn it on maximum, I had to draw an arrow on the knob so that I can visually see where my arrow is pointing, I do this by turning the knob to complete zero then draw the arrow with a sharpie at the lowest setting, then now you can see where to turn the knob. My knob is always at the middle pointing at the green led light or slightly more to the right but never full blast (vapor tends to fall down when its on full blast instead of rise) After maybe a day or two I clean it by pouring all the water out from everywhere, and yeah it does mold but I take care of that with a swab...so not too bad. Overall I have had no leakage nor breakage or malfunction any of the other people have gotten, maybe its luck maybe I just don't over work it (it is 30 bucks) I use this primarily for my acoustic instruments so it does fine.

My elephant humidifier has been in use (during fall and winter) for 14 months now, approx. 9 months of constant use. We heat with wood so a humidifier is a must. I've tried a lot of different humidifiers over the years and this is the best, beating out even the expensive ones. For one thing, this humidifier doesn't tend to get "icky" like my other humidifiers do. This product is simple, easy to use, easy to understand. You just fill the body with water, put the body in the base, and put the "head" on and you're good to go. The water tank ("body") is easy to carry, easy to fit under the faucet, easy to carry back to the base. The amount of mist is fully adjustable and it shuts off automatically when it's almost out of water. The only thing you need to watch for is that you place the head on properly. If it isn't seated just right, steam will come out of places in addition to the spot it should and you end up with a puddle. All you have to do to prevent that is watch it for a few seconds after turning it on to see that the steam is coming out the trunk (or eyes, or whatever, depending on the animal). If you see mist coming from under the head, then just adjust it until it's coming out the proper spot. The humidifier is quiet and after 14 months (9 months constant use), I haven't had a single problem. These are just adorable. I have the elephant, my Dad has the frog, and I'm getting ready to order the cow. And I don't even have kids!

The Crane Elephant is everything it offers to be: adorable, effective, and easy to use. It's super simple to operate, the quality of the mist is perfect and prolific, and we love how cute it is.

This humidifier works well for how much it cost, and I'm satisfied so far. It's relatively easy to fill and it lasts for a while. I haven't done any humidity measurements to see how effective this product is, but the streams of vaporized water coming out the cow ears work psychologically for me. My fiance loves the cowness of it, so that's a plus.
I used to wake up with a dry throat and the occasional bloody nose, but it hasn't happened much recently (perhaps still a little dry in the throat). Since the weather is warming up there's no way for me to tell which factor is really contributing.
Given that many of the bad reviews for this product have been more long-term product failures, it makes sense that this review is a little positive. I'll update if anything bad happens.

When my doctor suggested getting a humidifier for my cough, I struggled with the idea, not wanting yet another thing to clutter my place. But when I discovered the Crane animal humidifiers (and that they are filterless per doctor's instructions), I was happy to have a "fun" option. The mechanisms of the machine are simple to use (fill up the water tank, and turn the knob to the desired humidity level) and it did make it easier to sleep and breath in my apartment. While I do wish that I could set this humidifier on the floor (instructions recommend that it be placed higher than 2ft from the floor, although I'm not sure what would happen if it wasn't), I haven't tried because I'm not willing to chance my hardwood floors.
I also bought the filter for the product, although I'm not sure that I really need it given I use filtered water in my humidifier. After the filter's life cycle runs out, I'll try the filter with just filtered water and see if it makes a difference. Will update this review accordingly. Has anyone used this humidifier with aromatherapy methods?
Overall, the product has delivered on the metrics of easy-to-use and easing my health issues, so I can't complain. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a humidifier and especially for those want something with a bit of personality to it.
